Memorial Collection113 exhibits

The mission of this Collection is to collect, keep, and study various cinema-related objects and memorabilia of cinema history. At present, the Collection comprises 2,120 basic items and 2,520 scientific and auxiliary items that vary in type and purpose. The Collection is divided into «blocks» based on the nature of objects; these blocks contain diversified, but typologically interrelated materials and will eventually become individual collections.

Art design items in films
This block contains film costumes and their details, property made by studios and original items, set models and models for tricks and special effects.

The most valuable items in the costume collection are 9 items from the set of costumes to Ivan the Terrible, a masterpiece by Sergei Eisenstein. Items from Akira Kurosawa’s Dersu Uzala stand out in the property collection.

Models include an impressive outdoor set for Alexander Mitta’s Lost in Siberia. Among notable models for special effects are sailing ships from Sergei Yutkevich’s Othello and Alexander Ptushko’s Sadko and the model of a merry-go-round from Mary Poppins, Goodbye.

Memorabilia Collections

The museum collects and keeps personal belongings of famous filmmakers, «creativity tools» of directors of photography and art directors, portrait sculptures of outstanding cinematographers, prizes, medals, and other awards granted to films and their creators.

The collection also includes vinyl records, most of which are film soundtracks, and records of «stories told» by Mikhail Romm and performances by Lyubov Orlova and Valentina Karavayeva. Moreover, there is equipment to listen to these records, including gramophones with special cases to keep the records and a radio phonograph of the 1960s.
