Collection of Animated Cartoons and Slide Films517 exhibits

Graphic and visual materials account for most of the Collection of Animated Cartoons and Slide Films in the State Central Film Museum. As often as not, animated cartoons and slide films are a totally unreal world of make-believe.

The Animation Collection of the Film Museum dates back to 1988. The Puppet Division of Soyuzmultfilm Studio, the largest animation studio of that time, donated a collection of materials from 1960–1980 puppet cartoons. Most of the materials from the Studio’s Drawing Division were later added to the initial collection. These included designs, photoscripts, schemes, and doll/set designs, drawings and scenes from animated cartoon films, film files, postproduction scripts, and other filming evidence. They make it possible to reconstruct not only the past creative life of the entire studio with all its workshops and divisions, but, more importantly, the biography of animated cartoons, from the original idea to release.
